Versailles View and more Butterflies

I was able to finish Marie Antoinette’s window this weekend. I am really happy with how it turned out. This bespaq room box usually has a back on it behind the cove. But I took it off and created a window with a view of The Versailles gardens and palace. I really opened it up. It really is a pretty small room so I think this made it more grand looking. I have seen a couple of Michael Puff’s room boxes with this type of faux window in the back in person. I was just amazed by them!! so I decided to try it.

I will be adding a few gold leaf and brass accents to the front of the box, but otherwise I am pretty much finished..

Wood floor finished from a kit.. I have a beautiful rug that looks great in here but now I can't bare to cover the floor up. Hehe!!

A few photos of more butterfly themed items I have special order made recently.

  9. Very special addition to your roombox...don't you just love kit-bashing? Really makes it unique. Do you make the butterflies? Years ago I knew a girl from Key Largo who made the most beautiful butterflies out of twisted brass wire, glue, and paint. They were so authentic and I have quite a collection but they are still in the boxes :-( I never quite knew what to do with them. I like your treatment.

You guys are so wonderful.. Thanks for letting me brag:-) said...

Thanks Margot. I actually have a large collection of real butterflies under glass frames. I have a lot of friends say "how could you do that to them" Heheheh.. I say "I bought them that way" they are raised on a farm not caught in the wild. But it does not make them feel any better.. HHEhe!! I do have a little guilt when I look at them.. But I guess not enough to make me stop collection them.. hehehe!!

    Jeannette..
I would love to see your room box. I love LOVE your flowers.. Perhaps someday I will be able to get my greedy little hands on some for my Marie room..

    Kate, Susan..
Most of the butterflies are from kits. a few are finished you can buy one ebay but i did make a couple:-) They are hard!! heheeh!! It is much easier to buy them and they look nicer than mine too.. I am currently working on some butterfly items to sell on my web page and etsy. They will be a mix of bought and handmade butterflies.. I did see some fantastic finished butterflies on etsy.. I did not use any of them but the look so cool. They are kind of expensive so I would probably just use them for myself. I am working on collection items for a curiosity house or shop (for my self:-)

Also Susan.. It is fun to take a kit and make it your own.. This room box was really finished totally. So I really wanted to find a way to make it unique. With minimal work heheeh..

  12. Fabulous work Ericka. The window is just stunning and has really got me thinking about my own projects. Did you commission the picture of the view or create it yourself? It is simply stunning and add a whole new dimension to the scene.

  15. Thanks Michelle and Jamie..
Janice.. I bought the photo from a stock photo sight. I had it printed professionally because I need a big copy (my window was too big for me to print it on my printer). But really it is jut a regular photo print..

Betsy..Thanks so very much.. It is just a photo that is lighted between the photo and the window. So it gives the look of sunlight coming in..
