American Miniaturist Voodoo Shack in the Bayou

So excited I got my American Miniaturist with Martha Puffs Voodoo Shack. It is such a cool building. I was lucky enough to see it when they were still working on it. Now that it is finished I am so proud to have so many of my miniatures in there. It is a great issue Michael Puff give tips on how to create rust and age ceder shakes. Totally worth buying the magazine for that. I also have a voodoo doll "how to" and there are many other artist "how to's" in the issue like "Kat the hat lady" gives a wonderful tutorial on how to make a leather pirate hat.. There are many other artists I am forgetting.. I am only showing a few of the pages below. But it is a 9 page spread.

Love all the aging techniques on the front of the building.
In the photo above you can see my potion I decorated table in the lower right page.

Above you can see the herb bench I decorated in the left side.A quick peek at my Voodoo Doll how to..

Miniature Reliquaries

rel' i • quar' y. A small box, casket, shrine, etc., for keeping or exhibiting a relic.

rel' ic. 1. A corpse. 2. An object venerated by the faithful because of its association with a saint or other sacred person. 3. pl. Ruins; residue. 4. A survival; a vestige. 5. A souvenir; memento; often, a monument of the past.

I have had in my mind to make some miniature Reliquaries for some time. I think they go along with my interest in curiosities and curiosity cabinets. I wanted to have one for my curiosity cabinet I made recently. But never got around to it. I was spurred on in the past few weeks with the news coverage of Pope John Paul II's beatification.

Here is a link to the sale on my web pag: http://evminiatures.tripod.com/reliquary.htm

Reliquary with a vial of blood.

Jewl incrusted reliquary with a saint skull.
Reliquary with an aged packet or envelope sealed with a wax seal. Many real reliquaries have the Vatican wax seal.

Cross reliquary set with fabric fragments.

Reliquary with bone of a saint..

Below is a photo of the reliquary from Pope John Pauls beatification. here is a link if you are intersted: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700131921/Faithful-give-thanks-for-John-Paul-beatification.html

Above is St John's finger displayed in a reliquary. Almost made one of these but i thought the finger looked cheesy:-) Below are some older and jewel incrusted reliquaries.. Hope I can make more like these in the future..

Telescopes, Butterflies, and Bat's

I have just finished a batch of butterfly miniatures. I had alot of requests.. I also have some new wizard telescopes, and orreries. You can see everything I have available here:
http://evminiatures.tripod.com/available.htm

I don't really do steampunk miniatures but I like the Victorian scientist style. Like in The Time Machine by H. G. Wells. The new Time Machine movie (made in 2002) had not so good acting but I just loved his laboratory.. the butterfly miniatures remind me of that. They are fantasy:-)

Sometimes facebook can be wonderful..

Hi everyone. Sorry I have not posted in awhile. I have been working on some commisions. I do have a batch of metal miniatures that I will be able to show hopfully by monday. Telescopes, Orreries, candlabras, and a few new surprises.

I also just finished a little "how to" for American Miniaturest. Did anyone see my lolly "how to" a few months back ? I never got a copy. I do have one coming in the mail. I will post a little about it when I get it.

I just wanted to post an interesting little tidbit that happened to me on facebook. I found a long lost family member. My mothers cousin (I think that makes him my second cousin:-). It is even more interesting because he is making dollhouses and furniture. I thought that was so cool!! It must run in the blood somewhere.. Anyway there are some really cute dollhouse concepts and plains on his web page. http://www.moredesign.com/

Tia's Vieux Carre' Voodoo

I have been working on a voodoo doll “how to”. So of course I made a few more voodoo dolls to sell. They are always fun to make. I thought I would take the time to photograph them in my voodoo shop. I have been meaning to take some “moody” photos of my shop anyway.

I am always adding new items to my shop. You can see the Mardi Gras flag I just got as a gift. Someday I will finish the upstairs too. Probably some kind of séance room.

The wall behind the chair is going to look like "house of blues" style in the future. I went to the house of blues in Las Vegas and it totally gave me so much inspiration on how I want my voodoo shop to look. Very touresty of course.

The gang.. The alligator man was inspired by a similar creation I had seen in a New Orleans Voodoo shop. Baron Samedi in the top hat still needs a bottle of bourbon and a walking stick. The Skeletons were made by Patricia Paul and the carnival mask is by Diane Paone.

Moody photo.. I like to turn off the lights in the room and look into the shop as if I was walking buy..

Tia keeps a watch on here shop.. She is made by Elle Piccolo.. The neon signs were made by Jo and "The Neon Guy" of www.spencersnook.com

Some of these voodoo dolls are available on my web page here:

http://evminiatures.tripod.com/voodoo_dolls.htm

Fell in love with the miniature neon signs and I just knew my shop had to be a tourist shop on Bourbon Street.

I was so excited when they put my shop and Tia on the cover of AM. I thought for sure it was to strange for them to even print the article..
